How to Advertise Locally on Facebook and Instagram

Local businesses that are still open or doing click or collect. If you have an Instagram or Facebook, here is a simple and cheap way to advertise. First go to an existing post or create a new one with your offering. It could just be “We’re still open”. Click Boost.

There you’ll be presented with who and where you can target. Click on Audience Details and you can adjust your reach to people locally

As you can see, you can adjust gender, age ranges and locations. Here location is a radius of 25 Miles around Ireland. You can choose your exact location and a radius of minimum 1 mile. Suddenly you ad becomes much cheaper.

Here I chose South Mall Cork and radius of 3 miles. The each of people is still massive as you can see. Save that Audience and you’ll come back into the main menu.

Next up you can choose your budget and the duration and placements. If you have your Instagram connected to your FB you can boost the ad to both places. It says here that for a budget of €10 for 5 days this is who I can reach daily. I normally cut down the number of days to 2.

On the right hand side of the boosting menu it gives predictions of daily reach and engagement too. This is a rough estimate.

Now click on the Boost button and away you go. It can take a few minutes to sometimes a few hours for the boost to get going. If this is your first time the system seems to run more checks. It also checks the content of your post or the webpage if you included a link.
